Celebrating 6 years! 2001-2007
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
PrideSports Boston (PSB) fosters unity among athletic organizations that are inclusive of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender people, those questioning their sexuality, and heterosexual allies. In addition, PrideSports Boston promotes the concept of GLBTS athletics and fellowship, recreation and the enjoyment of athletics with and beyond the Boston area GLBTS community. PrideSports Boston is free of discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, economic status, ability, or sexual orientation.
OUR HISTORY
In March 2001, representatives from fourteen GLBTS sports groups established an organization dedicated to networking resources and sharing knowledge about administration of athletics. Becoming a visible presence in the Boston area and outreaching to people in search of athletic and social alternatives continues to be a PrideSports Goal.
PSB in the COMMUNITY
PrideSports hosts a web site that member sport organizations use to announce events or happenings of interest to the sports community. We also host periodic Sports Night socials at different GLBTS- friendly bars and establishments. We unify the athletic community to march in the annual Boston Pride parade and maintain an information booth on the Boston Common during the associated Pride Rally with information about all of our sports groups. All of our representatives are available to speak about the opportunities in sports available to the GLBTS community. We sponsor “Out at the Park” at Fenway Park, allowing participants in the sports teams to come together to enjoy the Red Sox and each other. This event has enjoyed tremendous growth since its inception in 2004. Our annual Toy drive is the largest single event we do to benefit needy children and families through out the Boston area.
OUR MEMBERS
The GLBTS athletic organizations of PrideSports serve the greater Boston area, offering athletic opportunities for men and women from all walks of life, of all ages, all skill levels, and abilities. Some athletes are returning to sports teams after high school and college careers. Some have participated in the Gay Games. Some have never considered themselves athletes, however are discovering a love for a new activity that provides a physical challenge and a social environment to engage other GLBTS people.
We all share a common interest in sports and building a healthy community.
